TV/FILM BASED

Day 4 of 7 Days of Halloween!
I'm a big fan of horrors, thrillers and all of that sorts. So, I picked a few of my favourite characters/looks to recreate. I didn't want to choose characters that are on trend this year, but rather ones you can recreate for yourself if you are a beginner, or adapt further if you are more advanced. I think the characters I chose are easily adaptable, but you will also see how I created the SFX and how easy it is for you to do aswell!

TWISTY THE CLOWN

Twisty the Clown is from, if you don't know, American Horror Story Freakshow. Despite my absolute fear of clowns, I wanted to actually try and face my fear and Twisty the Clown has got to be one of the only clowns I can face to look at. I do like the back story of him, too, so I thought he would be interesting to do. Looking back on the look, the only thing I would of changed is the mouth, I would of made the mouthpiece a mask, just like Twisty did, just to add more dimension to the whole look. However, for the first time doing teeth with face paints, I was proud of them nasty gnashers. Again, I did use Snazaroo's Ultimate Party Pack for the majority. I used a black eyeshadow for the eyes and colours from my Morphe Brushes 35OM for the brown clown marks above and below the eyes and reds and browns over the scar. The main part of Twisty is definitely the mouth. If you can do a simple clown smile with huge yellowy teeth, you can just go ahead and do that. I used Smiffy's liquid latex and tissue on top to create the scar around the forehead. A good tip for this look is to draw out in pencil eyeliner where you want the mouth, I didn't concentrate too much on that and I felt one side was a bit lower than the other side.

PATRICK BATEMAN

Patrick Bateman, American Psycho, is one of my favourite fictional characters. Although this costume didn't take an awful lot of time, I definitely enjoyed created it. It did help that my model for this costume, is just as psycho as the real Patrick Bateman. This is a great last minute costume, if you're looking for one. I think to get maximum effect of wearing this outfit, you need to pull out the stone face, as well as your best psycho impression. Christian Bale, who plays Patrick Bateman, is very chiselled himself, so I would recommend doing some good chiselled contouring of the cheekbones and nose, perhaps more than I did here. I added a layer of foundation to get his perfected skin care regime look, too. I bought the rain coat from Amazon, here. My model was wearing a suit underneath so I was a bit gutted the rain coat wasn't more clear. But it did the job. The infamous axe I got from Poundland! I was quite surprised at this, given that it was exactly what I needed for this costume, I don't ever get that lucky. I used Smiffy's blood spray which was perfect for this look. It doesn't come out as a mist, more streaks which drip down and make it look even more realistic. I dabbed half of the face and some on the coat to make the blood look more smeared and less perfectly placed. I would definitely advise completely covering eyes whilst using this on the face, I accidentally got some right in the corner of my models eye, which could of been disastrous, but luckily all was ok.

BEETLEJUICE

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!
This has got to be my favourite Halloween look I've done so far. Although, being fairly simply, I still learnt a new technique and I really love the effect it gives! First things first, I sprayed my models hair green, but not all over as he has dirty blonde hair, streaks of his real hair going through the green looked a lot more realistic. Even thought he doesn't have Beetlejuice's long, wiry hair, I simply spiked, messed up and hairsprayed it until I was happy with it. Snazaroo's white face paint is excellent as it can be build up or toned down. For this look, I toned it down just slightly, as opposed to my Sugar Skull look. To start building up definition, I used a light grey eyeshadow in and around my models forehead wrinkles (when he raises his eyebrows), and around his mouth. I used a darker brown on a thin brush to define the line inside and blended out.The eyes are as simply as they look, I used an eyeliner to draw out where I wanted the patches and made sure they were even. I used a dark purple/brown shade to fill in and then blended around the circles. And now, for the fun part! To create the delicious mould that's all around the face, I mixed liquid latex with cereal oats, I trial and error'ed until I got almost a mould-able ball of the mixture. I worked in small parts to avoid the latex underneath drying too quickly. I applied a thin layer of liquid latex to the skin where I wanted to place the mould, and got a little bit of the oats mixture and stretched it out a little, placed it on the latex and pressed down to flatten it a little. I done this in random parts of the face and added until I was satisfied. I layered different coloured face paints to get the mould colour effect. I used a sponge to add brown, then green on top. I then got a small paintbrush and added yellow in the smaller parts to avoid seeing the colour of the oats. I think it looks more realistic that not every bit of mould is the same colour, too.

What do you think? Which one is your favourite? Who is your favourite character and have you ever gone as them for Halloween? Let me know!
