THE TRUTH ABOUT MIRROR POWDER
Before I start this blog post, please keep in mind I am a complete amateur when it comes to nails. I am not claiming to be a professional or anything near. This is all from an amateurs perspective and my experience with mirror powder.
Today's blog post wasn't going to be another nail post. But due to a skin disaster on my face, I can't do much more at the minute. So, I received this in the post yesterday and I've been so excited to try it, so here it is.
THE PRODUCT
'Mirror nails' or 'Chrome nails' have been seen everywhere recently. I personally love the way they look. I think they look quite classy, pretty much anyone can pull them off and they look great with absolutely any outfit. The product itself is a very fine glitter pigment which transforms to a mirror effect when applied and buffed into your nails. I thought this sounded so easy and even I could do this, so I ordered this mirror powder
I watched a few videos on YouTube to make sure I got the technique correct. All of the videos I watched started with a black polish. So, I used my favourite Miss Sporty black polish. I followed with one coat of Essie's Good To Go Rapid Dry Top Coat. The technique seemed so easy. You simply pat on a scoop of the powder and slowly start buffing it into the nail. I found over-buffing just completely wiped it off. So, I tried again.
THE RESULTS/TRUTH
Bare in mind, I'm pretty certain I did this all correctly. It is no where near the desired effect, it is pretty, but I wouldn't do this again. I was never aware of just how messy this would get. Maybe that was me being stupid, but in YouTube videos where they can edit and crop parts out, I'm certain this is what they did. That, or they are some sorts of magicians. The air was literally filled with glitter. It reached places I wasn't even aware of.As for the application, it was damn hard. It really isn't as easy as it looks. I tried just patting it down instead of buffing, I tried buffing straight away, I tried buffing the tiniest amount and a bigger amount. Nothing worked. The pictures below are the best I could get. This was by gently patting down some powder all over and then gently buffing downwards. Maybe it's the product, or maybe, again, I'm being stupid and can't even figure out something that looks like it should be so simple. It just looks grainy and nothing like others do. I done one coat and I wasn't happy with it, so I added another layer of quick dry top coat and I figured I'd try to add a second coat of the powder. Granted, it did improve it, but it was still no where near the desired effect.
The last reason as to why I'd never do it again, is it is practically impossible to clean up around your nails and cuticles, it just sticks everywhere. I tried washing my hands over and over, and it came off my hands, just not around my nails in little crevices. My nails do not look classy, or any type or chrome or mirror effect. They're just a shiny silver with glitter stuck in my cuticles and the sides of my nails. Definitely not worth it and my fingers do not make a pretty picture.

Am I doing something wrong? Have you used mirror powder before? How did yours turn out? Is it better to just go to a salon that does this?
