APRIL FAVOURITES
The past month I've really gotten into skin care, and I've been trying new things to feel more confident about going out with not a scrap of makeup on. I done this twice in the month of April. It may sound silly, but I was really proud of myself. I have red blotchy skin, regular outbreaks of spots on and around my chin and at the very least, I cover this up and pop some mascara on before I even think about going out.
I have also finally made that horrifying step and tried a nude lip. I've always been nervous about doing this, because I'm ginger I am extremely pale and I always thought nudes just wouldn't suit me. I tend to stick to bold lipsticks because I love the contrast between my pale skin and a deep purple, for example. But, it turns out I found a perfect nude shade, so I will be venturing out more into nude shades.
Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet
Palmers Cocoa Body Scrub
I've always loved Palmers, but this certain body scrub just amazes me every time I use it. Not only do I smell like chocolate all day, but my skin is so unbelievably soft. I use it as often as I want, but I especially like using it after I've shaved my legs, or if I'm using a razor instead of my usual hair removal cream, I like to apply this to my legs, then shave. It made a massive difference to my red spots and irritation I get from shaving. I have a skin condition around my neck and chest which leaves discoloured, dry patches of skin, I thought I'd try it on these patches. The results were great. It got rid of all the dry flaking skin and even lightened the colour of the patches (I'm assuming because of the vitamin E in the product). Hands down, the best body scrub I have ever used.
At £5.99, I thought I would be best seeing if I got on with a beauty blender before forking out for the real beauty blender. I started out trying Wilkinsons own brand, but I didn't get the coverage I expected as for a sponge, it is very compact. Real Techniques was next on my list to try and after just the first use, I thought I'm not even going to bother with the real beauty blender. It gives me the best coverage I have ever had. It makes my foundation and concealer look absolutely flawless, and makes it last even longer. I love the flat edge for applying my foundation and the oval side is brilliant for getting into the creases. The difference between this and the real beauty blender is the flat side, and I now know that works for me. I'm just disappointed I didn't try it sooner!
Good Things Deep Pore Anti Blemish Cleanser
During April I was concentrating on skincare and improving my skin. This 2 in 1 cleanser/toner has been a godsend. It's anti-blemish, which is the main problem I've been looking to solve. I don't think I've been using it long enough to see a massive result in my blemishes. However, my skin is so much more hydrated all the time and my face feels and looks more refreshed. My pores are looking the best they ever had, I can't remember many deep pore products I've used that actually work with me, but this one is definitely the best. Plus, it is the most nicest smelling product I have ever put on my face! My other half was complaining about "spending £5 on water" (typical man), but the smell was one of the main reasons I decided to purchase this and will purchase from Good Things again.
Nivea Oil Free Day - Moisturising Day Cream
Nivea is always one of my go-to brands when my skin isn't doing great. I have used the dry/sensitive skin version of this moisturiser before because my dry skin was out of control, especially when it came to foundation, but it didn't really improve my skin much. It was just a nice moisturiser, so I stopped using it a while ago. I've always been confused about my skin type. For the majority, I think I do have combination skin. So, now it's been a few years my skin type has changed slightly. I am more oily than dry, but I do still get dry patches. That's why I opted for this oil free one, but it's also for combination skin. It has improved my skin a lot, in a short amount of time. I love the smell and texture of it, as with all Nivea products.
Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
I actually purchased this foundation a while back, but I only started using it regularly when I got my Real Techniques sponge. So far, this has been a great foundation. It lasts so long and gives the best coverage I've had. It's very buildable so this is the first foundation I have owned that I could possibly wear alone. I always, always have to use a setting powder. But, I feel I could do a thin layer to cover any blemishes etc and I could easily wear this alone. I don't feel so cakey as I have done with other foundations, including ones from Rimmel. The shade - light porcelain - is so perfect for my skin tone, too. So this is definitely one for my fellow pale people to try!
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer
I realise how late I am in even trying this product. I did regret it instantly. It's such a great primer, I often wear it just on it's own, It definitely does what it says, my skin looks so smooth and poreless, giving it a fantastic base for foundation/cc creams/concealers. My makeup has been lasting a lot longer and been more smudge proof since I started using this. The only downside is the residue it leaves on your hands isn't all that nice. I may be nitpicking but I do think the downside is worth using the product.
Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Gel
My skin isn't extremely sensitive the majority of the time, except for the outer corners of my eyes. They usually get red and sore, and I don't know what causes this. It can happen at any time, whether I've been wearing makeup or not, so I know it's nothing to do with makeup. I assume it's just one of them things. So, I decided to see if an eye gel would help soothe them. And for £1.50, this Boots Cucumber eye gel is now a staple in my skin care routine. It's really cool and soothing. I haven't noticed a massive flare up in my eyes since I've been using it,just a little, so I'm going to carry on with it to see if it calms it down completely. Thanks, Boots!!
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick in Peach Club
I tend to stick to the same brands when it comes to lipsticks. Liquid to mattes are my favourite, and I know which ones I like and which ones I don't. I haven't much experience with Bourjois, but I love their CC cream and CC eye cream. The Rouge Edition Velvet range are all liquid to matte, with a sheen finish. Although, I do prefer matte over anything, I quite like the sheen of this one. The texture is lovely and so easy to apply. I was expecting a deep muted rose (if that makes sense) colour, from the bottle, but it definitely comes out a nice bright peach colour. I really love it!
Sleek Matte Me Lipstick in Birthday Suit
I know I spoke about this in my last post. But, I'm still in love with it, and I can't get over how lovely this lipstick is. The texture, the finish, the lasting strength. Everything about it. And now Sleek have brought out 6 new shades! I know I will be repurchasing, but the question is which shades?! The little devil on my shoulder says all of them.
